Although the journey can be lengthy, taking a long-haul flight is undoubtedly worth it to visit some of the most incredible worldwide destinations. From the Great Wall of China to Iguazu Falls in South America, taking a long distance flight can transport you to some of most breathtaking places on earth.

To make your trip a bit more bearable, here are some top tips for surviving a long-haul flight and making it as enjoyable as possible.

1. Charge Up All Your Devices

Make sure all your electronic devices are fully charged and you have packed your chargers in your cabin bag before boarding your flight. Your seat on the plane may not have electrical outlets, so it might be worth taking an external charging device.

Who knows, it may come in handy during your holiday as well! Also, if you’re uninterested in watching the airline’s inflight entertainment, make sure you download all the films, television programmes, games etc. that you want to watch on your device.

2.  Wear Comfortable Clothes

You will be sitting on a plane for many hours, so you want to feel comfortable and relaxed. Also, everyone has a different tolerance to the temperature on an airplane, so it’s best to pack some layers just in case!

3. Set Your Watch to the Destination Time

As soon as you board, set your watch to the time of your destination. This simple trick helps you start adjusting your body clock and can reduce the effects of jet lag upon arrival.

4.  Pack an Eye Mask & Ear Plugs

Although this may sound obvious, these items will help create a better sleeping environment if it is an overnight flight or you just fancy a nap. Block out any distractions and feel like your snuggled up at home while you’re in the air.

5. Take a Travel Pillow

Sometimes pillows on airlines may not be to your liking, so make sure to invest in a decent travel pillow for your flight. This is not just necessarily a tip for when you’re trying to sleep, it will come in handy to support your neck throughout the entire journey.

6.  Stock Up on Snacks & Water

Even though you will be provided with inflight meals, you may feel peckish during the flight. Also, it’s important to stay well hydrated, so make sure you drink slowly and regularly throughout your time on the plane.

7.  Move Around on the Plane

Make sure to stretch your legs on your flight, as this will help avoid the risk of developing DVT (Deep Vein Thrombosis). Walking up and down the aisle every once in a while will help keep your circulation flowing and relieve you from the seated position.

8. Take a Mini Comfort Kit

Pack a small comfort kit with travel-sized toiletries like toothpaste, moisturiser, lip balm, and facial wipes. Freshening up during the flight can help you feel more relaxed and refreshed, especially on longer journeys.

9. Download a Sleep or Meditation App

There are many apps available that can help you relax, meditate, or even fall asleep with guided breathing exercises or calming sounds, making the flight feel less stressful

10. Fasten Your Seatbelt

If you do fall asleep, make sure your seatbelt is visible to the cabin crew, so you won’t be disturbed when they’re conducting their safety checks. If you’re bringing something to lay over yourself while you sleep, make sure your seatbelt is done up over it so they can see.
